💊 Pharmacy First: Get Treatment Without Seeing a GP

 

You can now get help for seven common health problems directly from your local pharmacy. Pharmacists can give advice and, if needed, supply prescription-only medicines like antibiotics or antivirals—without needing a GP appointment. 

🩺 Conditions Covered:

  1. Sinusitis – blocked or painful sinuses

  2. Sore throat – including tonsillitis

  3. Earache – especially in children

  4. Infected insect bites – redness, swelling, or pus

  5. Impetigo – a skin infection with blisters or sores

  6. Shingles – painful rash with blisters

Home Visits

Patients are requested, where possible, to telephone before 11am if a home visit is required that day.

We would request that, apart from the genuinely housebound, all other patients attend the surgery rather than request a home visit because of the extra time home visiting takes. On average four to five patients can be seen in the practice in the time it takes to do a single house call. In addition, the care that can be offered due to the lack of adequate lighting, examination facilities and equipment means that you may not receive as good a service as the doctor may be able to offer if you came to the surgery.

Please note that the doctor may telephone you rather than visit you if this is medically appropriate. Ultimately it is the doctors right to decide whether or not a visit is appropriate for a particular set of circumstances.

📞 Need an Urgent Appointment? If you require an urgent appointment, please call 0161 775 7373 as soon as possible. One of our trained staff members will guide you through the next steps and ensure you are directed to the appropriate service based on your needs.

  • Monday to Friday: 8:00 AM – 6:30 PM

  • Weekends & Bank Holidays: For urgent care, please contact NHS 111 or visit your nearest urgent care centre.

Chaperones

If you feel you would like a chaperone present at your consultation then please inform your doctor/nurse who will be happy to arrange this for you.

You are free to decline any examination or chose an alternative examiner or chaperone. You may also request a chaperone for any examination or consultation if one is not offered to you. The GP may not undertake an examination if a chaperone is declined.

The role of a Chaperone

A chaperone is there to:

  • Maintain professional boundaries during intimate examinations
  • Acknowledge a patient’s vulnerability
  • Provide emotional comfort and reassurance
  • Assist in the examination
  • Assist with undressing patients, if required

 If you would like to book in for one of these please drop off the forms at the surgery and we will be in contact with you upon the completion of forms or when the appointment will be. These are not covered under the NHS and cannot be booked into the standard NHS appointment times.
